The City is a six-piece band featuring electric violin, guitar, vocals, keyboards, saxophones. bass and drums/percussion. Semi-acoustic, we strive for a warm and mellow jazz-rock-country-blues-funk-folk-gypsy-soul thing, always listening for that "sweet spot" that happens when you're managing volume without sacrificing energy. Brings your hearing and soul into some sort of harmonious balance.
Most of our material is our own, or composed by artist friends in the Lexington area. Covers are chosen carefully - music all of us enjoy playing, or no deal. Influences include Ollabelle, Susan Tedeschi & Derek Trucks, Adele, Orgone, even some Gershwin and...Duran Duran? Yep.
We're out to produce a listening experience that is cool, fun and easy on the ears.
Note to venues:
The City believes that the relationship between band and venue has to be a mutually beneficial business partnership. Each needs the other and each has something to offer the other. We work with our partner venues, providing supportive marketing (posters and social media) and interacting in a cooperative spirit.

- Lexington needs its live music venues. And many of us would like to patronize venues that recognize that, for reasons having to do with work, kids or just plain habit, we're early risers!
Come out and support a great venue run by people who "get it" that nowhere is it written in stone that good live music must wait 'til late. And they have a kitchen that serves up fine Southern Cuisine, to boot!
Here's how we'll make coming out to support the Early Hours Movement it worth your while:
> Guess the origins of one of our cover tunes (we'll tell you which one just before we play it) and your dinner and the door are on the house!
> Place your name in the hat for a drawing during the 2nd set (must be present to win) and if we pick your name, The City will play -free- for your private or office party, or a non-profit fundraiser of your choice (date must not conflict with our present schedule and the event must occur prior to April 15, 2012.)
Come on out and show your support for the Early Hours Movement!

Heyya, you folks did it up right at The Lyric a couple of weeks ago. I hope to see you all again soon. I'm really grateful to have that sound here, and so faithfully performed. Great, tight sound, and wonderful vocals. How often does Jessie hear she looks like Scarlett Johansson? Take care, and Merry Christmas.
