The City is a six-piece band featuring electric violin, guitar, vocals, keyboards, saxophones. bass and drums/percussion. Semi-acoustic, we strive for a warm and mellow jazz-rock-country-blues-funk-folk-gypsy-soul sound that can be shaped to suit a variety of settings.

Up front: we're not a cover band. Most of our material is our own, or composed by artist friends in the Lexington area. The few covers that we do are chosen carefully - music all of us enjoy playing by the likes of James Morrison, Ollabelle, Susan Tedeschi & Derek Trucks, Adele, Orgone, even some Gershwin and...Duran Duran? Yep.

We're out to produce a listening experience that is cool to be around, fun to watch in the making.

The time has come to do something lasting with all the original material. We're launching a Kickstarter campaign to raise recording funds. There's a party involved, too. To keep updated, be sure to sign up for our mailing list.

Note to venues:
The City believes that the relationship between band and venue has to be a mutually beneficial business partnership. Each needs the other and each has something to offer the other. We work with our partner venues, providing supportive marketing (posters and social media) and interacting in a cooperative spirit.

- Heyya, you folks did it up right at The Lyric a couple of weeks ago. I hope to see you all again soon. I'm really grateful to have that sound here, and so faithfully performed.
